Suppose you're an artist... or some craftsman. You can do stuff. And you're pretty confident with your skills. You have people to prove it. You have clients. You can paid your bills and make a decent living. You've fancy things around you... the list goes on.

Now, imagine you see the work that's better than yours... x10 better, x100 better, infinity times better. What do you feel?

Anxiety, jealousy, depression? ...or maybe inspiration, respect and enlightenment?

The recent one for me was a cold shower feel. Everyone is better. F*ck! Even the monkey can draw better stuff!

It's a hard pill to swallow really. Your confidence is shattered. You don't feel the same anymore. Surprisingly enough after a few days you're back on track. Let's kick some ass, yeah!

I have been through this cycle many times. The details and feelings may vary but you've ups and downs like sine wave. The trick is to get out of 'downs' as soon as possible. Don't let them persuade you. Climb up.

This is where I live!  And that's why I'm an electrician and not a professional artist.  :|

I think most of us have been there >3<;;; Something I remember from the anime series Samurai Champloo, is where Jin, later on in the series to a teenager, says something along the lines of there's always someone better out there. Personally that made me realize that it might very well, for the most part, be a waste of breath trying to be the absolute best at something, so you might as well just invest as much time in yourself as you can, and live up to your own potential.

However I think I can safely say that artistic ability like yours is something that most artists strive for :la: You already rock really hard, so at least you have all that skill and ability in the bank already, so to speak C:

Thank you for your words!

I think such state grounds up your ego so it won't expand in the wrong way.

And thankfully most of us just recover from that state as time goes by.

:D My pleasure! And that's true, I actually happen to be coming out of a comparable state like that myself, so back to the drawing board for me! And in a good way! :dummy:

Well, I got married to Pinka and I have to say that sometimes I get stressed with myself with her drawing by my side, than I start to draw and everything become shit...... Is a pretty lame thought, but happens. You start to count everytime that you not draw, the level that you probably would be and bla bla bla.

I can say that is a kind of jaelous..... but not always happens. Like when I see the Pacal Campion stuffs..... is incredible how I feel it breath emotions that just motivates me to keep doing to bring to people the same feeling that I feel looks at his drws.

One thing I've learned is that you can't live life constantly comparing yourself to others. Not just your art, anything. Just do your thing.

Also, "better" is really in the eye of the beholder, unless you mean on a purely technical level. :)

I understand what you guys mean, but don't forget that we live in the society and pick up a lot of things even subconsciously.
It's great if you can get rid of these things that bogging you down.

And sorry for changing topic but did you had an account on Elfwood.com somewhere in 1999-2000?

No, I understand your point. I struggle with the same thoughts sometimes, I think we all do. But I'm happier when I'm not thinking about it. :)

Yeah, I did have an account there, still do, though I'm not as active there anymore. :)

you're my favorite artist on DA.  I dont think anyone tops your combined powers of technique, creativity, and composition.  But i guess since you have the attitude of yearning to be better, you are constantly improving.

in general, i am not a jealous person.  I think everyone has their contributions to share, especially in something as subjective as art.  I think that, no matter what, one should be proud of their personal style, because that is something unique.
